Silver Strand Half Marathon 2008 was a blast, with lots of skaters from all over the USA and they were ready to race! The start/finish was a bit different thus resulting in some skewed results but they were sorted out after the event. There where bad fires in Los Angles and Orange County and heart felt thoughts go out to those whom were affected by this. I captured a photo of the smoke even as far south as we were! Best regards and a speedy 110 wheel recovery to Cale Carvle (Chicago) and Any Zak ( Las Vegas) Whom both sustained really bad falls with broken bones due to a concrete pole in the courner of a turn out of radio road, We wish them both a really fast and better race next year without injuries! To quote Renee "wondergirl" regarding the finish line for Silver Strand it was very narrow this year... "you could tell us there is a cliff on the other side of the finish line, knowing that, if it still comes down to a sprint finish, we'll sprint it. There is no such thing as slow down for the finish line for a speed skater"
*update, both Andy Zak and Cale Carvel have recovered from the skate injuries and Cale says he will be at the start line next year! The next Silver Strand Half Marathon is Nov 15 2009 please pre register on active.com or via mail the web site is kozentprizes.com see you at the start line!
