** update the RACE ON THE BASE IS BACK AGAIN THIS YEAR FEB. 23 2008!!! YIPPPEEEEE! GET READY TO RACE ON THE FLAT CONCRETE FOR A FASSSST 10K ESPECIALLY WITH THE LARGER 100 AND 110 WHEELS! THE NEW RACE DIRECTOR IS OPEN TO SKATERS AND NEW SUGGESTIONS AND IS READY TO LISTEN TO US SKATERS! THIS IS GOING TO BE A BLAST OF A RACE, SEE YOU THERE!
The first race in the base at Los Alamitos CA was on 2/26/05 a unique 10k, we raced on the runways of the Los Alamitos base. Upon entering into the base we had to show a current photo ID of us. The race was on the runways with a clear view of all skaters all over the course. Which made for some friendly conversations and fun jabs from the skaters as we passed each other on the runways! The second race was Feb 25, 2006 and everybody had a blast. There were perfect road conditions, no rain! The results needed some adjustment, as the people at the finish shoot, had no clue as to how to handle the fasssssst finishers! The results and placements reflected this mishap. This year the Race on the Base, was canceled in 2007. It will resume again in 2008, after the gov't has finished with their inspections of the bases all over the USA.
The Race on the Base in Los Alamitos is back on this year! The new date is Feb. 23, 2008 at 8:25 am the web site is http://www.ci.los-alamitos.ca.us/race_page.htm this is a fun event and local! Entry to the base requires a valid ID be it a drivers license or a school ID everybody in the car must have one.
