Parkinson's Open Road Race at EL Dorado Park, Long Beach, CA. in area 3. Held Oct. 1 2006 was the inaugural skate event. We started the race with a short version of the Star Spangled Banner sung by JEL (http://mp.com ) Attended by fassssst skaters. This race was an almost a half marathon (6 laps) completed with no falls, no road rashes. With funds raised for Parkinson's Disease Foundation, thanks to all who attended including the volunteers who helped make this event, a great success! After the race, skaters were provided lunch, prizes, trophies, followed by a fun auction with baskets containing various cool items. With perfect weather and smooth roads (ok almost smooth roads) racers were flying at speeds of 30 mph plus. There were skaters from all over the United States!
At this race will primarily 4 and 5 wheel speed skaters (inline skaters) however this event is open to all skaters of all levels and abilities, slower skaters will be required to stay on the right side of the road, the faster skaters will be passing you on the left. The race is for 8 laps, but if all you are capable of skating, is 4 or 5 laps then, just skate that! This is a charity fund raiser, the idea is to raise funds for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, more money raised, more of a chance there is to find a cure for this disease.
Wolf speed skater boots or Rollerblade boots all work at EL Dorado!
Racers clapping and putting their helmets back on, after the Star Spangled Banner song, sung by Jell. Race director signaling the motorcycle leader to start the race!
